After a five-year voyage alongside the resurgence of the Star Trek universe, Wil Wheaton’s tenure as host of The Ready Room has come to an end. The Star Trek aftershow, which premiered alongside Star Trek: Picard in early 2020, seemingly aired its final episode today, coinciding with the finale of Star Trek: Lower Decks. According to a report from Trek Core.

The 16-minute concluding episode focused on the animated series’ final chapter, featuring interviews with series leads Tawny Newsome (Mariner), Jack Quaid (Boimler), Noel Wells (Tendi), and Eugene Cordero (Rutherford). The cast reflected on the finale and the overall legacy of Lower Decks.

The Ready Room with Wil Wheaton marked the third iteration of a Star Trek aftershow on Paramount+ (and its predecessor CBS All Access). It followed After Trek with Matt Mira, which accompanied the first season of Star Trek: Discovery, and the initial version of The Ready Room, hosted by Naomi Kyle for Discovery Season 2.

Wheaton, a Star Trek: The Next Generation alum himself, delivered a heartfelt farewell to viewers at the end of the episode:

“It really has been the joy of a lifetime celebrating the Star Trek universe with you,” Wheaton said. “This latinum age of Star Trek has brought us so many wonderful characters and storylines, and there is so much more ahead. With Strange New Worlds, Section 31, and Starfleet Academy all on the horizon — and more adventures in the final frontier to come — Gene Roddenberry’s vision of an optimistic future has never been more necessary or brighter. In the words of Captain Jean-Luc Picard, let’s see what’s out there.”

Wheaton’s departure marks the end of a significant chapter in Star Trek fandom’s online engagement. His enthusiasm and genuine love for the franchise resonated with viewers, making The Ready Room a popular destination for behind-the-scenes insights and cast interviews.

While The Ready Room has concluded its mission, the Star Trek franchise continues to boldly go forward. Fans can look forward to the premiere of the Michelle Yeoh-led Star Trek: Section 31 movie, set to debut on Paramount+ on January 24, 2025.
