Apple TV is currently one of the oldest set top boxes for sale right now. Recently, there have been a lot of rumors that an Apple TV update is right around the corner, so here is our list of things we would like to see in the next Apple TV.
Amazon Instant
Even if you buy all your shows/movies on iTunes, you may still choose to be an Amazon Prime subscriber for the free shipping. If you have Amazon Prime you should take advantage of the thousands of free movies and TV shows on Amazon. Sadly, Apple still does not have an Amazon Instant app; hopefully that will be fixed this year.
App Store
Roku recently announced they have over 200,000 channels in their channel store. Yes, a lot of them are junk, just like many of the apps in the Apple App Store are junk. Yet, there are a lot of great diamonds in the rough on Roku that Apple TV just does not have. Many of these diamonds offer great free content that leaves Apple TV content in the dust. Hopefully, Apple catches up with an app that will offer this content to Apple TV viewers.
Global Search
Fire TV has led the way in global search, and Roku is quick on its heels. The ability to find the movie you want across many different platforms, and not just limited to one store, is a huge step in helping you be a cord cutter. Hopefully, Apple makes it easy for Apple TV users to find the content they want with their update.
4K
The future is here, and it is 4K. Roku recently moved into 4K with their Roku TVs, and a host of Android TV boxes offer 4K. However, Apple could really make a name for themselves with a 4K Apple TV. Currently, the only way to get 4K Netflix and Amazon Instant is to have a TV with a built in Netflix or Amazon Instant 4K app. If you already have a 4K TV, you don’t want to pay a $1,000 for a good 4K TV with Netflix on it. A $100 Apple TV box with 4K would help push Apple ahead of Roku and the Fire TV.
Faster
The Apple TV is starting to look slow when compared to the Fire TV and new Roku boxes. No matter what Apple does with their next Apple TV, it has to be faster to compete.
