shield-android-tvNot only did the Nvidia Shield get access to the PlayStation Vue service yesterday, but now it gets a new update called OTA 3.3.

SHIELD Software Upgrade 3.3

  • DTS:X Audio:  Experience immersive, lifelike audio with DTS:X pass-through in Plex, Kodi v17, and MX Player
  • Adds Dolby Atmos audio pass-through support in Plex
  • Delivers the latest monthly Android security updates
  • Adds support for Vulkan 1.0.1.0 Conformance Test Suite

Apps, Apps, and More Apps

Streaming is all about apps, and the Shield is getting new apps every day. Recent apps to hit the Shield Android TV platform include the following:

Overall there are some nice additions of Dolby Atmos audio pass-through support for Plex that will help them continue to be the best Plex player out there; however, beyond that there is not a lot here for the end users.

It is nice to see Nvidia continue to develop for their Shield. We do know that Nvidia is working on a new Shield that was recently cleared through the FCC. Hopefully we will be getting a new Nvidia Shield in the next few weeks.
