Hulu is jointly owned by Fox, Disney, Time Warner, and NBCUniversal, and Hulu has deals with Fox, Disney, and Time Warner to offer their content on Hulu’s new Live TV streaming service but not NBCUniversal.
On Monday Fox held its quarterly earnings call with CEO James Murdoch. When Murdoch was asked about Hulu and its progress finalizing a deal to include NBCUniversal channels with Hulu’s Live TV service Murdoch declined to comment.
He did add, “…I know that the team there is very focused on putting together a package of programs and brands that are going to really work for the customers, and they’ll make those decisions as that commercial negotiation kind of plays itself out. But I think the product is going to be pretty good,” said Murdoch.
We still do not know when the new Hulu Live TV service will hit the market. Just a few weeks ago Hulu started a small beta program to test how the service works. It is possible that Hulu is hard at work adding new channels and the success of these deals will dictate when the new service comes out.
I did get a hands-on look at the new Hulu Live TV service. I was impressed with what it has to offer, but I was unable to see the full channel list at the time of the demo.
