Yesterday during the 3rd quarter 2017 earnings call Nexstar announced that they have reached a deal to bring CBS affiliates and most of their NBC affiliates to live TV streaming services including DIRECTV NOW and PlayStation Vue. (Nexstar is the second largest owner of NBC affiliates in the United States.)
“Nexstar now has reached mutually satisfactory agreements with three of the big four networks for participation in OTT services,” said Sook in a statement.
CEO Perry Sook did not stop there and went on to stay “We are of a mind that we will have agreements with all the networks by year end and all of the participating OTT services by year-end, and we’ll see what it ultimately amounts to,” Sook said.
For now, it looks like Nexstars still needs to strike a deal with FOX but everything is pointing to a deal already being in the works. From the earnings call it seems like a deal with FOX maybe done by the end of the year.
Nexstar also announced that its deal to include ABC affiliates on DIRECTV NOW, PlayStation Vue, and YouTube TV was extended through 2022.
It will take a bit for some of these stations to show up on your local live TV streaming service. Nexstar said a handful of NBC affiliates deals are not set to be renewed until sometime in 2018. These agreements will need to be renewed before they will be added. If this deal is anything like the others we are still months away from most of these affiliates going live on DIRECTV NOW and PlayStation Vue.
