Today Nexstar, the largest owner, and operator of local TV stations, has announced a deal to keep The CW’s President on for an additional year. This contract will see Dennis Miller remaining as President of The CW through 2027.

“Dennis has done an outstanding job since taking leadership of The CW,” said Perry Sook, Nexstar’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “He and Brad Schwartz have completely remade the network and its brand, bringing a fresh, innovative approach to programming that is designed to grow viewership and deliver significant value for our advertisers, affiliates, and distribution partners. When Nexstar acquired The CW, we said we intended to run it for a broadcast audience, and Dennis is doing just that—he has changed the way viewers think about The CW and this contract extension is well-deserved.”

“I’m extremely grateful for the confidence that has been placed in me and for the opportunity to continue doing what I love here at The CW—finding entrepreneurial executives who are interested in building for tomorrow, taking advantage of marketplace disruption to find new models for entertainment and sports programming, and working toward becoming a competitive Big 5 network. And we’re just getting started.” Said Dennis Miller President of The CW.

In 2022 Nexstar closed on its deal to buy majority control of The CW. Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount still own a small part but Nexstar has an option to fully buy The CW in the future.

In the past, The CW typically targets an 18-34 demographic, but since the sale, Nexstar has been refocusing the network to focus more on Sports. The CW has struck several big sporting deals, including one to air select ACC football and basketball games. This would help it expand its sports brand, which has recently reached deals with LIV Golf, and NASCAR.

Exact terms of the contract extension have not been announced.
