A New Nvidia Shield is Coming

shield-android-tvThe Nvidia Shield has become the flagship Android TV set-top box. The device is maybe the most powerful set-top box from the big five set-top box makers. The current Nvidia Shield has four times the processing power of the current Fire TV 2, according to Nvidia.

Now the evidence for a new Nvidia Shield is starting to grow as an FCC filing for a new controller popped up. According to the filing the new remote will be smaller and will not include the headphone jack on the controller; however, it could still be on the remote.

The new model number is P2920 and the current model number for the Nvidia Shield is P2570, leading many to wonder if this is a new device.

For now that is all we know but we would not be surprised to find out there is a new processor and graphics card coming because it is rumored that the soon to be released Nintendo game system will use the same graphics card as the current Nvidia Shield. Nvidia likely wants to free up inventory to meet the demand that Nintendo is likely to need for their new device.

For now we know little beyond the fact that there is a new controller and that the product ID points to a new device. So if you are thinking about a Nvidia Shield, I wouldn’t wait because it could be some time before we get the new device.
