Back when the new Fire TV Stick was announced we learned there would also be a new Fire TV OS.
Amazon described the new OS like this:
New Fire TV & Fire Stick OS
Coming later this year, a free software update for Fire TV will give customers a new OS. Fire TV will present a cinematic experience, offering video trailers and content screenshots to help customers access the content they want more quickly—without the need to open and close multiple apps. Finding and enjoying apps and games will be simplified with support for a customizable apps list on the home screen. Accessibility improvements will also be included, allowing customers to use Fire TV and any compatible apps with the VoiceView screen reader. These features will be available for all Fire TV customers as a free, over-the-air update, starting with the new Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote and latest generation Fire TV later this year.
Now, thanks to AFTVnews.com, we can take our first look at the new OS.
Right of the bat you may get the feeling that this looks a lot like Android TV. It seems as though Amazon is taking some of the best of Android TV into their Fire TV OS.
Gone is the menu on the left for a new menu system on the top. The OS feels more colorful with less black space and more images and more of a blue feel.
There also seems to be a more prominent role for apps on the home screen.
There is still no confirmed date for the new Fire TV OS. All we know is it is expected sometime this year.
