Recently, Amazon announced a major event for September 20th, 2023. At this event will announce new devices that will reportedly include a new Fire TV.
This date was announced by Amazon’s Senior Vice President of Devices and Services, David Limp, who posted this save-the-date announcement:
“The Devices & Services team has already had a very busy year, and now that Amazon’s HQ2 is officially open, it only feels right to gather there in a few months to share a bit more of what we’ve been working on. Mark your calendar for 9/20 for some news from us!”
So exactly what are we expecting from this event? Well, recent Fire TV sales have given us some ideas, but we can also pull from Amazon’s pas to get an idea of what they are likely working on.

What we are not expecting?
One thing you shouldn’t expect is a new Fire TV Cube. Amazon just announced a newly updated Fire TV Cube in 2022 and typically Amazon lets new products like that run for a few years before they update it again.
So what should we expect?
Recently Amazon has had their Fire TV Stick 4K and Fire TV Stick 4K Max on sale. This is in line with expectations that Amazon will be rolling out an updated Fire TV Stick likely the 4K models.
The current Fire TV Stick 4K Max was released back in early October 2021. With Amazon’s history of updating Fire TV models every two years or so it should be expected that the Fire TV Stick 4K Max is very likely to be getting a new refresh in 2023.
It is also possible the standard Fire TV Stick 4K could be getting an update but it is also possible Amazon will go back to offering just one new Fire TV Stick 4K version again.
What should we expect from a new Fire TV Stick 4K?
Amazon has done a great job this year keeping its new models from leaking early. Though if history is any clue there are three things you should look for from a new Fire TV in 2023.
First better WiFi is something you should be looking for. When Amazon announced the Fire TV Stick 4K Max WiFi 6 was the biggest addition. Now in 2023, it’s very likely we could see that upgraded to the new WiFi 6E standard.
The second thing to look for is improved performance in the form of improved RAM and/or CPU performance. Right now the Fire TV Stick 4K Max is one of the most powerful streaming sticks on the market. It wouldn’t take much of a power increase to have it really stand out.
Lastly, look for upgrades to the Fire TV remote. Look for maybe some features from their upgraded remote to become standard on the Fire TV Sticks.
What about Alexa?
There have recently been reports that Amazon has been working on improving Alexa. Look for maybe some new Fire TV voice commands and features. Though it seems unlikely that Alexa will see a massive overhaul in 2023, but anything is possible.
