Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F is coming out on Netflix in the summer of 2024, the streaming platform confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday and teased the first look at a trailer coming out tomorrow.

Eddie Murphy returns to his role as Axel Foley nearly 40 years after the Oscar-nominated original hit theaters in 1984. In November, Netflix posted on X to reveal “Axel Foley returns in 2024!” but didn’t provide more specific information. Today’s post narrowed the timeframe to “Summer 2024.”

Netflix is jumping on the sequel bandwagon next year, along with other major studios releasing several new additions to fan-favorite franchises like Deadpool, Beetlejuice, and Ghostbusters. Such films tap into an audience’s nostalgic love of an old property from yesteryear while studios can build off already established franchises.

Attempts to make a fourth film have flopped for decades following the release of the poorly received third installment in 1994. Paramount distributed the original trilogy, but this time, Netflix is at the helm with producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Mark Molloy. The fourth installment lands Foley back in Beverly Hills, exposing corruption after his daughter’s life is threatened.

Also returning from the previous films is Judge Reinhold (Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Gremlins) as Billy Rosewood and John Ashton (Some Kind of Wonderful, Midnight Run) as Sergent John Taggart. Paul Reiser (Aliens, Stranger Things) is also reprising his role as Jeffrey Friedman, as is Bronson Pinchot (Perfect Strangers, Risky Business), who plays Serge.

Taylour Paige (Zola, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom) joins the cast as Axel’s daughter Jane, Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Project Power) as Detective Abbott, and Kevin Bacon (Leave the World Behind, Footloose) as Captain Cade Grant.

The original Beverly Hills Cop is available to stream on Netflix.
