When Apple’s Vision Pro headset hits shelves on Friday, customers won’t find the Netflix app among the wearable’s offerings, nor will they be able to run the iPad version of the app on the device.

In an interview with Stratechery, Netflix’s Co-CEO Greg Peters didn’t pull any punches when asked about the streaming giant’s absence.

Peters said Netflix is exercising caution around its investments to ensure profit, but it waiting to “see where things go” with the headset.”

“Certainly, we’re always in discussions with Apple to try and figure that out but right now, the device is so subscale that it’s not really particularly relevant to most of our members,” Peters said.

This comes as the streaming giant — and most of the entertainment industry — has been navigating a tumultuous past three years.

While Netflix has fared better than its competition in terms of profitability, the company didn’t escape 2023 unscathed. Netflix pared down the number of shows it produced and cut back its workforce. Still, the streaming giant reported a 13.1 million paid subscriber gain in the fourth quarter.

Peters said Netflix is still open to working with Netflix in the future.

“[W]e’ve worked together for a long time, we’ve always had active discussions to how we could help each other out. Sometimes we find a great space of overlap. We can move very, very quickly. Sometimes it takes a little bit longer,” he said.
