Do you have a new HDR TV? How about a Netflix subscription? We have great news for you. Now you will be able to watch Netflix Original Marvel shows such as Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones in HDR. This is in addition to movies already in HDR such as Hancock, Pineapple Express, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and The Smurfs 2.
HDR is the newest version of 4K that brings brighter colors and darker blacks to your TV, giving you the best possible picture that really makes it standout from standard HDR.
Yesterday Netflix released a video giving an update to its HDR lineup.
Everything, after camera, goes through a color correction process. What that means is that shot-to-shot, scene-to-scene, the color is adjusted such that it helps to tell the story and is pleasing to the eye, said Jay Tilin, vice president of editorial services at Deluxe, in a video. High Dynamic Range allows you to show much brighter images and a much wider range of colors on a television screen.
Something thats a little bit more out there that we’re really excited about is the notion of HDR or high dynamic range, said Chris Jaffe, VP of user interface innovation for Netflix, during an announcement at the Mobile World Congress earlier this year.
Its less about packing more pixels on the screen like the move from HD to ultra-HD 4K was, it’s about extending the total range of those pixels … what that means is theres a much more photo realistic image that youre watching, which is much more representative of the total range that your eye can see when you’re just looking around in real life, he added.
You can watch Netflix HDR content on devices like the Roku Ultra if you own a HDR TV.
