Netflix has for a long time been the highest grossing app on iTunes. The problem for Netflix is every time you sign up for Netflix through iTunes Apple gets a 30% cut. In select markets Netflix has started to bypass iTunes and is sending people directly to the mobile version of their website to sign up.
If you live in Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Norway, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, and Thailand you can no longer sign up for Netflix through iTunes.
Current subscribers seem to still be able to pay through iTunes, but for now this just affects people who are getting a new account or let their account lapse. It is possible that this is a test and, if successful, it will be rolled out to other markets.
Netflix is not alone in trying to find ways around this fee. Some providers, like YouTube TV, charge more if you sign up through iTunes. Others, like Amazon, have just decided to not let anyone buy a product through their iOS app to avoid the fee and just direct them to their website.
