Looks like the NFL may have found one more partner willing to pay big to air NFL games. According to John Ourand from Puck, Netflix is in talks to air NFL Games on Christmas Day.

The deal will reportedly be for two NFL games on Christmas Day 2024. Exact details are unknown.

The NFL has recently reached deals with Disney and NBCUniversal that saw games air exclusively on Peacock, Disney+, and ESPN+ last year. This is on top of Amazon’s deal to exclusively stream Thursday Night NFL games on Amazon.

Recently Amazon aired its first live sporting event: a special golf match. Landing NFL rights would be a massive leap into sports streaming.

Many streaming services have recently seen sports as a way to lock in viewers. Peacock may be the most aggressive in using sports to grow subscriber numbers.

Over the last few years Peacock has locked in exclusive deals with multiple sports leagues including the Big Ten for exclusive college basketball and football games. Peacock will also be the exclusive home to many Olympic events this summer.

The question now is will sports fans stay for the TV shows or will they subscribe to Netflix in December only to cancel in January. If that happens it raises questions on if sports will be able to keep subscribers or if they will just drive up churn.
