Netflix will be launching their first podcast on November 7, the company announced today.
The podcast will be called The Only Podcast Left will be set in the post-apocalyptic world of the show Daybreak. The fictional storyline will follow teens in the Daybreak universe who start a podcast.
“We love how podcasts give creators more freedom to explore and go deeper into elements of their stories, and we see original scripted podcasts as the next level in world exploration. With ‘Daybreak,’ it’s a world ripe for that,” Rae Votta, podcast lead for the Netflix brand, told Variety. “If the Daybreak tribes can play video games after the apocalypse, we figured they could also be creating a podcast! This one was especially fun as it’s playing into the meta nature of it all and explores what makes a podcast…by making a podcast.”
The Only Podcast Left will stream exclusively on Spotify through December 12th before being released on other podcast platforms.
While this is the first scripted podcast for the company, Netflix is already producing several podcasts, including Present Company with Krista Smith, You Can’t Make This Up, and Strong Black Legends with Tracy Clayton.
