Streaming services are continuing to see strong grow. It’s also not only the big three—Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon—but also other services—such as HBO NOW and Sling TV—that saw solid growth.

A recent study by Tivo (formerly Digitalsmiths) gave us a detailed look at the current growth of streaming media.

From the report Netflix is still the largest subscription streaming service on the market. More than 52.8% of the American population subscribes to Netflix. That is a 4.7% increase over 2015 and a 6.4% increase over 2014.

Amazon Prime Video (just the Prime side not the rental/sale side) is solidly in second place with 26.3% of Americans using the service. (Note: This is using the video service not people paying for Prime.) That is a 6.7% increase over 2015 and a 9.6% increase over 2014.

Hulu is still in third place but also saw solid growth that brought it up to 11.8% of Americans subscribing to Hulu.

Overall subscription video on-demand services saw an 8.4% increase over 2015 and over three years it saw an 18.5% increase in users.

The study also shows that Americans are watching more subscription video services. In 2015 the daily hours watched of services such as Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime increased by 2.3%.

The last thing that is of interest to cord cutters is the fact that many cable TV subscribers also pay for services such as Netflix. They are also watching these services more often. It’s almost like they are already halfway to becoming cord cutters. Something that could help cord cutting continue to grow.
