Nielsen has released its top rankings chart for the week ending Dec. 12, a time when people were busy preparing for the holidays and time off. That’s reflected in the moderate number of streaming minutes most titles saw as people weren’t quite ready for down time. That and the fact that not a lot of new content was released this week contributed to the low(ish) viewership.

Something notable about this week was that three different streaming services all had Original content in the top three – Netflix lead with Lost in Space reaching over 1 billion minutes, followed by Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video who had new episodes of Hawkeye and The Wheel of Time. Another interesting title to make the list is the children’s series Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous which clocked 337 million minutes from young, mostly male audiences.

In Acquired, toddlers and babies seemed to have nothing but time on their hands making CoComelon the most-viewed title. Netflix all but dominated the category with evergreen classics like NCIS, Criminal Minds, Seinfeld and more with the exception of Bluey on Disney+ and The Thundermans which is available on both Hulu and Netflix.

By this time in December, viewers were really getting into the holiday spirit with Christmas favorites accounting for 60% of the most-watched movies for the week. Home Alone and Elf were the top titles with around 300 million minutes each, followed by Red Notice on Netflix which is hanging on in third place with 280 million.

Overall, Netflix’s Lost in Space banked the highest viewership thanks to its newest season release. Along with Hawkeye and The Wheel of Time, it was the only new content to make the top 10 list as viewers opted for rewatching older releases.
