For the first time a streaming network receives more nomination than a traditional cable or over the air network. Netflix is leading everyone with 8 Golden Globe nominations. HBO and Starz both received 7 nominations, and FX and Amazon received five nominations for Golden Globes. ABC, FOX, and PBS each earned 4 nominations, and CBS came in with just 1 nomination.
This is not the first time Netflix has been nominated or won a Golden Globe. Netflix was first nominated in 2013 when House of Cards took home their first Golden Globe.
This year’s noticeable nominations for Netflix include Best TV Series Drama and Best TV Series Comedy.
Here are the other nominees for these categories:
Best TV Series, Drama
Game of Thrones
Best TV Series, Comedy
Mozart in the Jungle
Orange Is the New Black
What is becoming increasingly clear is that the best content out there is no longer on cable but online with Netflix and Amazon becoming the clear leaders followed by smaller services like Hulu.
Now that services like HBO, Starz, and Showtime are online it’s becoming even easier to get the best content without the need to pay a high monthly cable TV bill.
