NBCUniversal is Shutting Down The Cable Network Chiller

Authentic scrambled reception on a TV screenToday NBCUniversal once again is shutting down one of their cable networks. Earlier this year they shut down the Esquire Network, rebranded the Oxygen Network into a crime network.

Now NBCUniversal announces that Chiller their horror-centric channel will be shutting down. Chiller is a 10 year old horror focused cable network owned by NBCUniversal. The network aired shows like 666 Park Avenue, Being Human, Fear Factor, Tales From the Crypt, The Twilight Zone and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Chiller reaches about 40 million homes but has recently struggled to get deals with Dish, Verizon, and others to carry the channel.

Now NBCUniversal has announced that starting January 1st 2018 Chiller will be no more and at this time has not announced any plans to replace the channel.

Chiller currently streams on PlayStation Vue, DIRECTV NOW, YouTube TV, Hulu, and fuboTV. None of these services have announced any plans to replace the channel at this time.

As cord cutting grows the decline in pay-TV subscribers is increasingly putting pressure on smaller networks like Chiller. The question now is not when but who is next on the chopping block. As fewer people watch live TV networks like Chiller are increasingly feeling the pinch.
