NBCUniversal Shakes Up Its Leadership Under Comcast’s New CEO Mike Cavanagh

NBCUniversal announced some big changes in leadership as Comcast’s president settles into his new role. Mike Cavanagh took over as interim president of the company this past April and has since shaken up the leadership roles as he strives to streamline operations and evolve to keep up with cord cutting.

Instead of naming a new CEO, he has decided to split the responsibilities between four executives already well-versed in the company.

“I’m very excited to work with this team to build on our great momentum and drive NBCU forward,” wrote Cavanagh in an internal memo reported by The New York Times.

Donna Langley will be overseeing creative decisions for NBCUniversal’s programming content, including Peacock. She will continue in her role as NBCUniversal’s film chief. Cavanagh plans to “leverage her long-standing relationships with the creative community and ability to partner with the most prolific storytellers in our business to unlock a seamless cross-profile creative strategy including programming, distribution, and marketing across film, television, and streaming,” as reported by Deadline.

Donna Langley will head the new NBCUniversal Studio Group. Mark Lazarus’ role as chairman of NBCUniversal television and streaming has been expanded to include business matters related to creative content for the Media Group.

Chairman of NBCUniversal News Group, Cesar Conde, will take the reins over Telemundo Enterprises and NBCUniversal Local. Conde is credited with growing NBCU’s News Group to one of the most watched news programming across all platforms, growing the streaming new service faster than any other.

Mark Woodbury will stay on as NBCUniversal’s parks chief and run the Universal Destinations and Experiences Group, including Universal Orlando Resort, Universal Studios Hollywood, Universal Studios Japan, and Universal Beijing Resort.

Chavanagh also announced Chairman of entertainment content for television and streaming, Susan Rovner, has decided to leave NBCUniversal. Frances Berwick will be promoted to cover her roles under the guidance of Langley and Lazarus.
