NBCUniversal Responds to Roku’s Statement on TV Everywhere Channels Being Removed

Roku shared with Cord Cutters News this morning an update on the negotiations with Comcast to bring NBCUniversal’s Peacock streaming service to the platform. NBCUniversal has now reached out with a response to that report.

In the statement from an NBCUniversal spokesperson, below, the company calls Roku’s demands “unreasonable,” the same phrase Roku used to describe Comcast’s demands earlier today.

“We are disappointed Roku is removing its users’ free access to NBCUniversal programming – 11 network apps, 12 NBC Owned Station apps, 23 Telemundo Owned Station apps – and continues to block access to the only free premium streaming service available in the market, Peacock. Roku’s unreasonable demands ultimately hurt both their consumers and their consumer equipment partners to whom they’ve promised access to all apps in the marketplace. “

With both sides holding firm with their asks, which include how content is shared on the platform and how ad inventory is divided, Roku and Comcast are at a standstill for now. However, both sides seem optimistic that a deal can be reached.
