Today NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations announced that they have closed on their deal to buy two new TV stations in the Sacramento and Salt Lake City area. Both of these stations are Telemundo affiliates previously owned and operated by Serestar but now will be apart of the NBCUniversal family of channels. These channels include KMUM in Sacramento and KTMW in Salt Lake City.
“The Telemundo stations have redefined the way that local Spanish-language audiences receive their local news,” said Valari Staab, president of NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations. “With each new team we’ve welcomed to our group, we have enhanced the stations’ news programming, hired local journalists to support the boost in news, and pioneered our industry’s first-ever Spanish-language station apps that feature the marketplace’s only Spanish-language weather alerts. We are proud to welcome the stations to NBCUniversal and our owned stations family.”
Now NBCUniversal now owns 30 Telemundo stations and 12 NBC Stations service 30 different markets. This comes at a time when there is a growing push for consolidation in the world of broadcast TV stations as Tribune, Raycom, and more are all merging with other broadcast TV owners.
