NBC and Telemundo-owned station apps are getting a new look. The companies unveiled upgraded mobile apps today with new features for English and Spanish-speaking news audiences to easily access local news and weather forecasts, including trending stories and precipitation alerts.
The new apps feature sleek new looks that make it easier for users to get their daily dose of top or latest local news and weather forecasts. Users can also customize alert options for breaking news, sports, weather, and more. The apps are now dark-mode compatible for nighttime viewing, and a re-architected backend system makes the app experience 2X faster.
There’s also a new Video Hub page that features videos categorized by topics, with users having the ability to watch videos back-to-back. The news feed transforms according to the news cycle and lists the most important news stories on every visit. An improved reading experience allows users to easily swipe left and right through articles and manage alerts.
The weather section lets users expand their radar to see surrounding conditions and an easy ‘at a glance’ graph of their local weather. The app also gives forecast information on UV index, dew point, sunrise/sunset, moon phases, water temperature, and more.

“Our new apps are faster, sleeker and give local news audiences the information they want, quickly,” said Lora Dennis, SVP of Digital Media, NBCUniversal Local. “I’m very proud of our team for all of their hard work to give local news watchers the mobile news experience they deserve.”
