“We think Sling TV is awesome and is a sign that cord cutters are winning! The tipping point is near. We’ve seen our antenna sales in Walmart, Best Buy, Sam’s Club, Fry’s, Amazon, and our website double in the last couple of weeks. We’re very excited to see a la carte content becoming a reality.” Said Mark Buff CEO of Mohu in the recent AMA on Reddit.
In the AMA, Mohu credits Sling TV as being the reason for the uptick in sales. “We think absolutely the release of Sling TV has had a major impact on our sales velocity. Since its release, there has been a major increase in buzz and cord cutting is being talked about more than ever. Things like Sling TV create awareness, which has been apparent in all aspects of our business.”
This is very exciting news as it is concrete proof that cord cutting is expanding. As cord cutting expands, more companies like Dish will bring new services to cord cutters. We fully agree with Mohu; the buzz around cord cutting is growing. Even on our site we have seen traffic double over the last month.
When asked about the future of cable television and cord cutting, Mark Buff said “I believe cord cutting is the future, and that’s based purely on the trends of our sales and company growth. As far as cable companies, I think they’re either being extremely naive or in a great state of denial. What is indisputable is the customers frustration with rising prices and inflexible contracts. What they don’t take seriously is customer service.”
It is refreshing to see a major company like Mohu understand that treating your customers fairly is important.
When asked about Mohu Channels release date they said “We’re planning to launch in early March!”. Hopefully we will see an official date in the next few weeks.
