The Mohu Channels, the device that was successfully funded on Kick Starter last year, is now available for sale. Mohu Channels is made by the same company that makes Mohu Antennas, the number 1 selling antenna manufacture on Amazon.com.
With Mohu Channels you can combine all of your content into one place:
- OTA: Over-The-Air = Broadcast Stations (independent & networks: CBS, ABC, NBC, Fox, PBS, plus all your local favorites) All of these are FREE with the help of a simple HDTV antenna.
- APP: Streaming video apps = Netflix, Hulu+, Crackle, YouTube, and thousands more. They’re easy to get from the Google Play app store. It’s exactly like downloading and installing an app to any Android tablet or smartphone.
- WEB: Websites = Simply type into Channels the address for your favorite web page and it instantly becomes a TV channel in Mohu’s Channel Guide. Choose your favorites – school websites, business, shopping, photo websites – you decide.
You can see our full review here:
Pros:
- It has a beautiful user interface
- Great OTA scanning, the fastest I have ever used
- Free Channel Guide
- Great Keyboard
Cons:
- No DVR built into it
Mohu did announce that “a beta version of Timeshift has been implemented to store up to 30 minutes of recorded television, allowing you to rewind and fast forward through a show”. At the time of our review this was not available for testing.
Apps:
The Mohu Channels allows users to install apps from the Google Play Store; bringing you great apps like Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, and more.
You can also create a channel from any website. You can add network websites, like NBC.com, to watch free full episodes of your favorite shows right on your Mohu Channels.
Conclusion:
This is a great device for someone who wants everything in one spot; or a great device for a family member who is horrible at remembering what HDMI port the DVD player is on. Having everything in one spot really makes the Mohu Channels something to consider.
The only real drawback is the lack of a DVR function. The addition of a DVR function could make this the “must have” device of 2015. With that said, this is a great device even without a DVR built in.
