In a nostalgic nod to classic animation, MeTV Toons, the only television network dedicated exclusively to vintage cartoons, is set to launch a new two-hour programming block titled Mighty Mouse and Friends. Starting November 2, the block will air every Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. ET/PT, bringing the iconic superhero mouse back to broadcast television according to a report from Animation Scoop. The lineup will also feature other beloved Terrytoons characters, including the mischievous magpies Heckle and Jeckle, marking their return to broadcast TV after decades of absence.

The Mighty Mouse and Friends block will showcase a mix of classic cartoons from the Mighty Mouse Playhouse, which originally aired on CBS as a Saturday morning staple from 1955 to 1967, and the later series Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures, produced by renowned animator Ralph Bakshi from 1987 to 1989. The programming will include a variety of Terrytoons shorts, such as Mighty Mouse, Heckle and Jeckle, Terry Bears, and Mighty Heroes, alongside episodes from Bakshi’s revived series. This diverse selection aims to capture the charm and humor that made these cartoons timeless for generations of viewers.

Mighty Mouse first flew onto the scene in 1942 as a theatrical short created by the Terrytoons studio for 20th Century Fox. The diminutive superhero, endowed with extraordinary powers, quickly became a cultural icon, captivating audiences with his heroic antics and catchy theme song. His popularity soared during the Saturday morning cartoon era, where he became a household name. In 1987, Ralph Bakshi reintroduced the character with Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures, a series that stood out for its superior production quality compared to other animated shows of its time. The series was notable for its bold animation style, which paved the way for the high-quality animation boom of the 1990s. It was also among the first Saturday morning cartoons to be broadcast in stereo, enhancing the viewing experience for fans.

MeTV Toons’ Sunday schedule will offer a full day of classic animation, starting with Inspector Gadget from 6 to 7 a.m., followed by Baby Looney Tunes, Casper and Company, The Tom and Jerry Show, The Woody Woodpecker Show, Popeye and Pals, Bugs Bunny and Friends, and House of Hanna-Barbera leading into the Mighty Mouse and Friends block. The network is accessible nationwide via over-the-air broadcast stations and streaming platforms such as Philo, Frndly TV, Fubo, DirecTV, and DirecTV Stream. Viewers can find local listings and channel details at MeTVToons.com.

This new block is a celebration of Terrytoons’ legacy, reintroducing Mighty Mouse and his pals to both longtime fans and a new generation. With its blend of nostalgia and high-quality animation, Mighty Mouse and Friends promises to be a highlight of MeTV Toons’ Sunday lineup, proving once again that the tiny hero is ready to save the day.
