Metro by T-Mobile is Advertising Home Internet for Just $20 a Month

, ,

Metro is one of T-Mobile’s prepaid internet brands and recently has been heavily advertising a $20 5G Home Internet deal.

Metro is hoping to entice more people to sign up across the Midwest by leaning into T-Mobile’s $5 autopay discount and the $30 discount provided to low-income households through the Affordable Connectivity Program.

So no, this internet package isn’t truly only $20, it’s $55 before discounts. Metro’s Home Internet plan is the same as T-Mobile and Verizon’s prices. Metro is just really driving home the perks of the Affordable Connectivity Program and prepay discounts hoping to encourage new customers to sign up by broadly advertising the savings.

As seen on a billboard advertisement for the deal, “5G Home Internet Now $20 for qualifying Affordable Connectivity Program customers with AutoPay and $40 phone plan. One-time gateway purchase required.”

The Affordable Connectivity Program covers home internet and data plans for mobile through several internet providers. The program also covers up to $100 towards the purchase of qualified devices. Almost 20 million people have qualified so far. The $30 is credited to your monthly bill. Households on Tribal lands can qualify for $75 so through Metro they could see a $0 monthly bill.

FierceWireless reports the program may not be around for long “because the $14.2 billion funding for Affordable Connectivity Program is expected to run out by early 2024 and Congress has not acted to refund the program.”

If the program closes, consumers will have to pay the standard monthly price. On the plus side, Metro doesn’t have annual contracts so you can cancel at any time if that proves to be too expensive for your household.

Want to find out if you’re eligible for the Affordable Connectivity Program? You can apply on the Federal Communications Commission website or visit Metro’s page for instructions while signing up for service.
