Over the last few years there has been a growing number of layoffs in the world of TV. Paramount cut about 20% of its employees last year and laid off hundreds this year. Just this week we learned that Warner Bros. Discovery would lay off about 1,000 employees.

Fox Entertainment this week eliminated 30 positions as it looks to cut costs by restructuring the company.

Cable TV companies have also been laying off employees. This change includes Spectrum laying off over 1,000 of its customer service employees.

As Americans ditch traditional TV and switch to cheaper cable TV companies, media and cable TV companies find themselves needing to cut costs.

With the switch to focusing on digital media, this has left companies reconsidering what its employees are doing. As fewer and fewer Americans pay for cable TV, the need for customer service agents and similar services is not as high.

In the years to come, look for layoffs to become more common in media—a career that was at one time seen as extremely safe. A career path now with cord cutting that is changing.
