March Madness has arrived as 8 teams compete in the First Four to secure a spot in the first round of the 2022 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament. The play-in round of the tournament will feature 3 conference champions: Texas Southern (SWAC), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Southland), and Bryant (NEC).
The play-in game began in 2001, but the First Four officially expanded the tournament from a 64-team field to a 68-team field in 2011. Since its inception, there hasn’t been a First Four team to win the tournament but many have busted brackets. Two play-in teams have made it to the Final Four with the 2021 UCLA Bruins being the most recent.
