In the age of cord cutting, most networks and shows are looking at declining growth but there is one area that is seeing a recent boom. This all comes to us from a new study Radio-Television News Directors Association says that local TV News is seeing a strong growth even as cord cutting speeds up.

Well, the study will not be released until next week B&C News published some early highlights today. According to the report, a record number of TV stations now air local news and the consolidation of newsroom operations has slowed. This all points to solid growth in local news as Americans are once again turning to local news?

So why are so many stations doubling down on local programming and local news? Well, often this content is live and live content has recently been the content advertisers want. Recently advertisers have been looking for live content to fight off cord cutting.

Live content can drive higher ad dollars right now. In the day and age of streaming and DVRs skipping ads cutting into ad dollars. With live content like local TV news, viewers are far more likely to view the ads and it is resulting in higher ad demand. This has pushed more station owners to double down on local news and other live events.
