Hulu’s live-action Marvel comic series Runaways will not be renewed for a fourth season, according to reports. Season three of the show is set to debut December 13, and we now know it will be the final season.
According to someone close to the production, the creative team thought this third season will provide a natural ending point for the show’s storyline, and so a fourth will not be in the works.
Runaways is based on the Marvel comic series and follows six teenagers who must unite to fight against their parents who are secretly villains in disguise.
‘Runaways’ was one of the last surviving Marvel Television shows set up under Jeph Loeb. Others including Netflix’s Cloak and Dagger have already been canceled. The only live-action Marvel Television shows still around are ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D which is gearing up for it’s seventh and last season, and a new Hulu show Helstrom which is slated to debut in 2020.
Earlier reports have hinted that Jeph Loeb could be stepping down as head of Marvel Television in the near future, and this could be a foreshadowing. Before taking his position with Marvel in 2010, Loeb worked as a writer on popular YV shows Smallville, Lost and Heroes.
