Bill Belichick’s much-talked-about Hulu docuseries on North Carolina football now appears to be off the field before it ever really got started. Once touted as a front-row seat to the start of a new era in Chapel Hill, On3.com’s Inside Carolina reports that the season-long project with Hulu and EverWonder Studios is “no longer happening,” according to sources close to the program.

Over the summer, it was reported that Hulu had inked a deal to follow Belichick’s debut college season, with EverWonder attached as producer. Front Office Sports discovered many phrases trademarked by a firm controlled by Belichick’s girlfriend, Jordon Hudson:

It is not yet known what the new documentary will be called. A firm controlled by Hudson registered trademarks for phrases including “Chapel Bill (Bill’s Version),” “Do Your Job: (Bill’s Version),” and “No Days Off (Bill’s Version).”

In late August, the docuseries was confirmed when Belichick announced the news to his players ahead of their Week 1 matchup against TCU, in a video tweeted by the team. In the video shared by the team, the former eight-time Super Bowl-winning NFL coach stated:

“I know that you guys have heard that there is a lot of interest in doing a, let’s call it an in-season-long documentary or season-long show about North Carolina Football. And so I’m excited to share with you that we will be doing that with EverWonder and Hulu that will showcase our football program. … It’ll stream on Hulu later this fall. It’s going to feature the players working hard, which you guys do. It’s about the players improving and getting better through their hard work, which you do, and the program starting from where it started from seven months ago to wherever it’s going to go through the course of the season, which of course, will be determined on the field, alright. It’ll show our commitment to winning, it’ll show our commitment to the team, and that’s our priority.” (H/T 247 Sports transcript)

Weeks removed from the on-camera confirmation, the On3 report highlights the Tar Heels’ bumpy start to the 2025 campaign. The reporting did not include an official statement from Hulu, EverWonder, or UNC releasing a reason for the change. However, the report notes the team is 2-3 through five games and has been badly outscored,120-33, by power-conference foes. Given that content, it may be why stakeholders might rethink a season-long, behind-the-scenes production during a transitional year.

Production companies and streamers often shift plans in response to scheduling, creative concerns, or changing circumstances, and the latest news underscores the risks of real-time documentary production. For cord cutters who were anticipating a Hulu window into Belichick’s first season at the college ranks, the reported nixing of the series removes one potential media spotlight for the program.
