Beginning October 8, Hulu will replace Star as the international tile in the Disney+ app.

In an announcement Thursday, Disney said that the change is “in preparation for a fully integrated unified app experience next year” and users will continue to see updates as Hulu rolls into the Disney+ app.

Here are the upcoming changes to Disney+ shared by the company in the announcement:

  • Simpler Navigation and UX Design: A new navigation bar has been added to the app, with a “for you” tab that will learn a user’s content preferences, and tabs for Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN.
  • More Personalized Recommendations: Helping users easily get to the content they want and discover the content that is most relevant to them
  • More Dynamic and Visual Homepage: A new, more modern design allows users to more easily find the characters and brands they love.

Hulu officially announced that it would be more fully integrating Hulu into the Disney+ app in August, saying that combining the two would result in a better user experience while also cutting down on costs for the company.

“Today we are announcing a major step forward in strengthening our streaming offering by fully integrating Hulu into Disney+,” said CEO Bob Iger and CFO Hugh Johnston shared in a statement in August. “This will create an impressive package of entertainment, pairing the highest-caliber brands and franchises, great general entertainment, family programming, news and industry-leading live sports content in a single app.”

For users in the U.S., Hulu is expected to shut down as a standalone app in 2026 when the service is integrated with Disney+. In the meantime, Hulu is raising its prices later this month.
