Hulu is on a buying binge of new shows and content. In an effort to go toe to toe with bigger brothers, Netflix and Amazon Video, Hulu is cracking open the deep wallets of Disney and FOX in an effort to make their catalog irresistible to cord cutters.
Hulu has recently struck a deal with Disney to bring a ton of new Disney TV shows to Hulu and now has a deal with TruTV to bring their popular “Billy on the Street” show to Hulu.
“As an incredibly popular and creatively inventive show in truTV’s portfolio, ‘Billy on the Street’ has cultivated a passionate fan base that actively seeks out the show and embraces Billy’s unique comedic talent and obsession with pop culture. This partnership with Hulu gives us a great opportunity to both super-serve those existing fans and also introduce the show and our network to new audiences,” said truTV President Chris Linn.
“Billy on the Street” is a variety sketch series that follows unfiltered, unapologetic comedian Billy Eichner as he hits the streets of New York City to test unsuspecting passersby. In the show’s recently wrapped fourth season, Billy was joined by some of the biggest names in Hollywood including Chris Pratt, Tina Fey, Will Ferrell, Anna Kendrick, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Julianne Moore. The series is executive-produced by Mike Farah, CEO of Funny Or Die, along with Eichner, Anna Wenger, and Doug Brady.
Hulu clearly is dedicated to offering the largest catalog of content possible and is willing to spend a lot of money to make it happen.
