Hulu Supported Devices in 2022

Hulu is a premium streaming service with thousands of hit TV shows and movies. It also produces its own award-winning original programming. If you want to watch The Handmaid’s Tale or Little Fires Everywhere, you’re going to need Hulu

With Hulu, you can subscribe to an ad-supported plan for only $5.99/mo., or you can upgrade to an ad-free plan for $11.99/mo. The service also offers premium add-ons, such as HBO and STARZ. Or, if you’re looking for a true cable alternative, Hulu + Live TV costs $64.99/mo. As its name suggests, Hulu + Live TV covers your live programming needs. It comes with the standard Hulu DVR of 50 hours of cloud-based storage, so you can always catch your favorite show, even if you have to watch after hours.

Whichever plan you choose, Hulu makes it easy to connect to supported devices via its app. Recent updates have improved on the service’s device compatibility list, making it one of the best options regardless of your current home set-up.

Need help making sure your devices work with Hulu? Here, we’ll run through which Hulu devices and Hulu Live TV devices are compatible with the streaming service. Spoiler alert: it’s most of them.

How do Hulu’s supported devices compare to other services?

Hulu may have a few limitations when it comes to select, older TV models, but overall, its compatibility is one of its strong suits. From casting Hulu on Chromecast to streaming from your phone, Hulu offers a multitude of options to ensure you can always watch your favorite programming.

Unlike many other streaming services, it’s not just compatible with smart TVs, phones, and tablets. Hulu is also available across the board on most major gaming consoles. Whether you want to watch Hulu on Switch or Xbox, you can with the latest app.

First off, it’s important to note that Hulu has two versions of its app: the latest updated version and its “Classic” app.

Most devices will default to Hulu’s latest app, and you won’t have to think twice about it. With the latest app, you’ll get full access to all of Hulu’s features. This includes its streaming library, premium add-ons, and live TV if you subscribe to that plan.

There are two exceptions to this. On Xfinity devices, even with the latest app, you can only access the Hulu streaming library (no add-ons or live TV). Similarly, PlayStation 3 uses the latest app, but it only offers the Hulu streaming library and some add-ons, no live TV.

The “Classic” Hulu app provides access to Hulu’s streaming library and select add-ons — but no live programming.

TVs and players

Hulu’s latest app works across most major smart TVs and players. You can view content on your TV with the Hulu Apple TV and Hulu Live TV Roku apps. And you can also watch Hulu on Amazon Fire Stick and other Amazon casting devices, like Google Chromecast.

If your device is older, don’t fret quite yet. You still may be able to access Hulu’s streaming library through its “Classic” app (but again, you won’t have access to live TV or select add-ons).

You can use the “Classic” app with Apple TVs (2nd & 3rd generation), select LG TV models, Rokus and Roku Sticks, Samsung TVs, Sony TVs, TiVo products, and VIZIO TVs.

Phones and computers

It’s easy to watch Hulu on your phone, tablet, or computer. All Android and Apple smartphones and tablets are compatible with the Hulu app. If you’re a Fire Tablet user, that also works with the app. To start watching on your portable device, visit the App Store or Google Play to download the Hulu app.

Additionally, you can access Hulu on Mac and PC web browsers by going to Hulu’s website and logging in.

Gaming consoles

Hulu recently upgraded its app, now making it fully compatible with many popular gaming consoles. These include Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.

Would you like to enjoy Hulu + Live TV on your gaming console? If you have a PlayStation 4, that’s no problem. Just sign into the Hulu Live PS4 app and start viewing.

The final cut

Hulu has worked hard to expand the list of its compatible devices, and it shows. In fact, you most likely have one of its supported devices already set-up in your household. Whether you want to catch up on your favorite shows through the Roku Hulu Live app in the living room or stream Hulu on Firestick from the comfort of your bed, the options are nearly endless.

If you’re still unsure whether Hulu will work in your household, Hulu wants to make it easy for you to sign up and give it a go. So, it offers a generous 30-day free trial period. Create an account, and you can try it out on your computer, your phone, and your streaming stick — you never know which way you might like it best.
