American Gladiators, the competition show that pitted amateur athletes against each other and fearsome gladiators, was one of the most popular syndicated programs to ever grace television.
ESPN Films and Vice Studios have teamed up to executive produce the latest in the Peabody and Emmy award-winning 30 for 30 series, The American Gladiators Documentary. Directed by Ben Berman, the documentary is a two-part film that covers the reality show competition while examining themes of greed, divergent narratives, and more.
The David versus Goliath style show originally ran from 1989 to 1996, and became a hit but was also criticized as being “crash TV.” Throughout the 30 for 30, the show’s cast and crew will give viewers in-depth behind-the-scenes stories, memories from the show, and any regrets they have about being a gladiator during the series.
