Although March Madness will receive a lot of attention from most fans, the 2024 National Invitation Tournament shouldn’t go unnoticed. The 32-team tournament will feature teams that did not make the cut for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. This year’s NIT championship game will be held at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Established in 1938, originally the NIT was the most prestigious postseason tournament in all of college basketball, as it preceded the NCAA Division 1 Tournament by a year. In modern times, the tournament is looked at as a secondary tournament and has been dubbed the “Not Invited Tournament” by some due to the teams not qualifying for the 68-team Big Dance.
