The last leg of the Triple Crown is finally here as the fastest three-year-old Thoroughbreds compete at the 2021 Belmont Stakes. Known as the ‘The Run for the Carnations,’ the Belmont Stakes is the longest leg in the Triple Crown at 1.5 miles, or 12 furlongs and this year’s purse will be set at $1.5 million. There will not be a Triple Crown winner this year since different horses won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes.

Eight horses will run the dirt track at the 153rd edition of the event. Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit will not race in this year’s event due to failing a post-race drug test. Medina Spirit’s Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert was suspended for 2 years because of the controversy. Of the 8 horses running at this year’s event, 5 of them competed at the Kentucky Derby, and 2 of them ran at the Preakness. Overtook will be the only horse debuting at this year’s Triple Crown. Below is the lineup of all 8 horses in order by their number.

  1. Bourbonic
  2. Essential Quality
  3. Rombauer
  4. Hot Rod Charlie
  5. France Go de Ina
  6. Known Agenda
  7. Rock Your World
  8. Overtook

Last year’s event was moved to the first leg of the Triple Crown due to the pandemic and was held without spectators; however, fans will return at this year’s event which will have at least 11,000 fans.
