Week 5 of the 2021 NFL season kicks-off tonight with a high stakes NFC West matchup on Thursday Night Football. The 3-1 Los Angeles Rams travel to Lumen Field to take on the 2-2 Seattle Seahawks. Unfortunately, Seattle’s 2020 season Super Bowl hopes were ended at home by the LA Rams in the playoffs with a 30-20 defeat in the Wildcard Round. During their last matchup, the 12th Man was not in attendance for Seattle, which usually gives them a huge advantage. Russell Wilson will be facing a loaded Rams defense that features DT Aaron Donald and CB Jalen Ramsey on a short week. Luckily, history is on Seattle’s side as the Seahawks lead the all-time series 25-22.
After taking a year off, the International Series is back, as American football makes its long-awaited return to the United Kingdom. Sunday morning’s game between the 1-3 New York Jets and the 1-3 Atlanta Falcons will be held at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in front of a neutral crowd. Tottenham Hotspur Stadium can hold over 62,000 fans as the NFL continues to expand the game worldwide. Fans across the pond will be treated to a QB matchup between former NFL MVP Matt Ryan and rookie Zach Wilson. The Falcons are coming off a heartbreaking loss against Washington where Ryan put up 4 TDs and 283 yards. The Jets are fresh off a 27-24 overtime upset against the Titans, thanks to a big time throw in the fourth quarter by Zach Wilson.
Sunday Night Football will be the home of an AFC Championship Game rematch between the 3-1 Buffalo Bills and 2-2 Kansas City Chiefs. Like the AFC Championship Game, this week’s matchup will take place at one of the league’s loudest fields at Arrowhead Stadium. The last time these two teams met, Kansas City won convincingly 38-24 on their way to the Super Bowl. This season, both teams haven’t played up to their reputation, as the Bills have lost to an underwhelming Steelers team. The Bills’ three wins are against teams that probably will not make the playoffs this year. Kansas City has lost against the Chargers, Ravens, and are currently last in the AFC West. Fans will be treated to an exciting contest between two of the best young gunslinger in the league with Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes.
Monday Night Football will be the last nationally televised game of the week when Carsen Wentz and the 1-3 Colts travel to Baltimore to take on Lamar Jackson and the 3-1 Ravens. The Colts are one of the most disappointing teams this season. Their 3 losses have been by 2 scores or fewer, but they need a big win Monday night to stay competitive in a tight AFC. The Ravens are coming off a victory over the Lions where Justin Tucker set the record for the longest field goal in NFL history in dramatic fashion. The Ravens are in a 3-way tie in the AFC North and if they can defeat the Colts then they’ll be able to continue their momentum heading into next week.
