The 2023 NBA Playoffs head into the Conference Finals with the No. 7 Los Angeles Lakers taking on the No. 1 Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals.
Led by LeBron James, the Lakers finished the regular season with a 43-39 record and qualified for the Play-In tournament. After making quick work of the Timberwolves, LA’s finest secured the 7th seed in the playoffs and have been upsetting each team that’s come in front of them.
In the opening round, James, Anthony Davis, and the Lakers eliminated Ja Morant in the Memphis Grizzlies, 4-2, with a 40-point blowout in Game 6. In the second round, the curtains didn’t close for the Lake Show after they defeated Stephen Curry and the defending champion Golden State Warriors, 4-2, with a 21-point blowout to close the series in Game 6.
Heading into this year’s Western Conference Finals, the Lakers will be taking on the Nuggets, led by two-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic in a rematch of the 2020 WCFs, in which the Lakers won 4-1. The Nuggets are the favorites heading into this year’s series, as they’ve been dominated throughout the postseason after giving the Timberwolves a 4-1 gentlemen’s sweep in the opening round. They followed that series by defeating the Phoenix Suns, 4-2, in which Jokic averaged a triple-double: 34.5 points, 13.2 rebounds, and 10.3 assists.
