After failing to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the United States Men’s National Soccer Team (USMNT) returns to the field in the qualifying round of the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) World Cup qualifiers.

USMNT is ranked second in their group and will be facing first-place Mexico in what is considered a historic rivalry. Led by Riccardo Pepi, Weston McKennie, Tyler Adams, and Sergino Dest, the United States look to remain in the top-3 for a chance to advance to next winter’s 2022 Qatar World Cup after not qualifying for the 2018 event, their first time doing so since 1986. Mexico leads the all-time series 36–15–21, and superstars Chucky Lozano, Hector Herrera, Raul Jimenez, and Guillermo Ochoa will look to send the USA packing.

Jamaica, Costa Rica, Honduras, Panama, El Salvador, and third-placed Canada represent the other 6 teams that will be competing in the round-robin tournament. With the top-3 teams advancing to the 2022 Qatar World Cup, the team that falls to fourth place will have one more chance to qualify in the inter-confederation playoffs in June 2022. Teams 5-8 will be eliminated from World Cup consideration.
