After numerous delays and postponed release dates, one of the most anticipated science fiction films of the year has finally arrived. Directed by Denis Villeneuve, Dune is based on Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel of the same name and is set in the far future about the son of a noble family that has to protect his family’s most valuable asset from threats across the galaxy.

Dune will cover part one of Herbert’s novel but there are plans for a sequel if the film performs financially well upon release. Vileneuve’s film is a remake of David Lynch’s 1984 film of the same name. The film’s music will be done by the legendary Hans Zimmer and Villeneuve is joined by Jon Spaihts and Eric Roth as screenwriters. Shot on a $165 million budget, there are plenty of big-name stars in the futuristic action-adventure sci-fi drama. Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Chang Chen, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem are some of the heavy hitters in the 2 hour and 35-minute feature.

Originally, the sci-fi epic was scheduled to be released on November 20, 2020, but was pushed back amid the pandemic to December 18, 2020. Unfortunately, the pandemic continued and it was pushed to October 1, 2021, replacing the release date of The Batman. However, it was postponed until October 22, 2021, due to competition from the established James Bond/007 franchise’s latest film No Time To Die. Finally, due to WarnerMedia’s 2021 same-day release strategy, Dune’s release date was pushed up a day to October 21, 2021, so the film can be streamed at home upon its theatrical release.

With the potential to become one of the biggest films of the year, moviegoers and cord cutters can find out how to watch Dune below.
