Professional wresting finally makes its weekly return to TBS for the first time in 20 years, when AEW Dynamite makes its network premiere. All Elite Wrestling’s flagship show is transitioning to TBS after spending the past 2 years on TNT.
TBS has a storied history when it comes to the world of professional wrestling. From 1971 to 2001, several different wrestling promotions aired on the network, most of them were southern-based. Georgia Championship Wrestling aired on the network from 1971 to 1984, and the World Wrestling Federation aired from 1984 to 1985. However, TBS viewers did not enjoy the style of the WWF, which led to Mid-South Wrestling and Jim Crockett Promotions airing on the network from 1985-88. Eventually, Ted Turner, the network’s founder would get into the “rasslin business” and JCP would become World Championship Wrestling, which aired from 1988-2001.
Like many of its predecessors, AEW is headquartered in the south, Jacksonville, Florida to be exact, however, the upstart promotion isn’t a southern wrestling company. Since debuting on TNT back in October of 2019, AEW Dynamite has given fans a credible show to wrestling show to watch on a national level. In 2020, the show was ranked at 57 on TV Guide’s 100 Best Shows list.
