YouTube is making it easier to doze off to your favorite shows with the addition of a sleep timer feature to its Android app. This new functionality allows users to set a timer that automatically pauses video playback after a specified duration, preventing those late-night viewing sessions from keeping you awake or draining your device’s battery.
How to Set the Sleep Timer
Enabling the sleep timer is a breeze:
- Start your video: Open the YouTube app and begin playing the content you want to watch.
- Access Settings: Tap the “Settings” icon within the video player.
- Set the Timer: Tap “Sleep timer” and choose the desired duration before the video automatically pauses. You can select from a range of options, from 10 minutes to a full hour.
You can also adjust the timer at any time by following these same steps. Once the timer expires, you’ll receive a silent notification, and the video will pause. If you’re still awake and want to continue watching, you can simply reset the timer.
This feature is particularly useful for those who enjoy watching TV as they wind down for bed. It eliminates the need to manually pause the video or worry about falling asleep with the screen on, ensuring a more restful night’s sleep.
The sleep timer is currently only available on the YouTube Android app, but it is expected to roll out to other platforms in the future. .
