Football returns to MetLife Stadium as Morehouse takes on Albany State in the second annual Toyota HBCU New York Classic. The NYC College Football has made a name for itself as the unofficial kickoff event of the HBCU homecoming week as it showcases the HBCU pageantry and tradition to a national audience.
In 2022, over 35,000 fans and alumni from all over the country flocked to MetLife to enjoy the event. With 107 HBCUs across the nation, the game spotlights Black culture, with this year’s halftime show featuring a celebration of the 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop. Outside of the traditional drumline performances and the battle of the bands from the participating schools, viewers will be treated to surprise guests.
Heading into the game, the Morehouse College Maroon Tigers are the underdogs as they are coming off of a disappointing 2022 campaign. The Tigers, who are currently 0-2, went 1-9 last year and were routed by the Albany State Golden Rams 31-7 when they faced each other last October. As for the Golden Rams, they’re 1-1 to start the season, but they are coming off a successful 7-3 record in 2022.
