‘Hocus Pocus’ is the Top Selling DVD & Blu Ray in the US for 2 Weeks in a Row

Hocus Pocus

Oh look, another glorious morning for Hocus Pocus sitting on top of the country’s disc sales charts. The 1993 Disney film has been number one on the NPD VideoScan First Alert chart for two weeks now, a list that tracks combined DVD and Blu-ray disc sales. Hocus Pocus has historically ranked in the top five for sales in October.

Two of Tim Burton’s creepy, Halloween classics hold number 2 and 4 on the chart for the week ending October 10. Beetlejuice starring Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder ranked second in over-all disc sales, and Jack Skellington claims number 4 in The Nightmare Before Christmas. The last pick begs the question – is The Nightmare Before Christmas a Halloween movie or a Christmas movie? According to these rankings, viewers associate the dark fantasy claymation creation with the spooky holiday on October 31.

These same Halloween films are fan favorites across digital platforms as well. For five years in a row, Hocus Pocus has topped Vudu’s list of most popular Halloween movies on the video-on-demand service. The Nightmare Before Christmas and Beetlejuice have also been on the list, ranking numbers 2 and 3 respectively during Halloween week over the past five years.
