HBO has revealed the premiere date (along with the first official trailer below) for its next Game of Thrones spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, during this year’s New York Comic-Con. According to The Verge’s Charles Pulliam-Moore, the six-episode first season will debut January 18, 2026, introducing fans to a new corner of George R. R. Martin’s fantasy world.
Based on Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas, the series follows Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey), a humble hedge knight seeking honor, and Prince Aegon Targaryen (Dexter Sol Ansell), the young royal nicknamed “Egg.” Set decades before A Song of Ice and Fire, the show explores their unlikely partnership and the early events that helped shape Westeros long before the rise of the Iron Throne.
Pulliam-Moore noted that the trailer gives the new series a “tall drink of water and eggs” vibe. It makes for a lighter tone than House of the Dragon but still filled with “battles and fire-breathing monsters.”
While fans continue to wait for Martin’s long-delayed The Winds of Winter and for House of the Dragon’s next season, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms aims to fill the gap. If only Joffrey had lived to see it…
Throwing It Back To Westeros
First airing in 2011, Game of Thrones became a global television phenomenon for HBO, running for eight seasons and 73 episodes through 2019. Created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, the series adapted George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novels, transporting viewers to the continents of Westeros and Essos. The setting was a world of dynastic wars, exiled heirs, and supernatural threats from the far North. Known for its intricate politics, sudden character deaths, and sweeping production values, Game of Thrones broke viewership records for HBO and earned 59 Primetime Emmy Awards, the most for any drama series.
The show’s mix of political intrigue and fantasy redefined event television and inspired a devoted global fan base. Its success paved the way for a growing Thrones universe that began with House of the Dragon in 2022 and continues with A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Both prequels explore earlier chapters of Martin’s history of Westeros, expanding on the lore that made Game of Thrones one of the most influential series of the modern streaming era.
