HBO Max will start shooting a holiday special featuring country singer Carrie Underwood that will stream exclusively on the platform this winter. The special will feature songs from Underwood’s first full-length Christmas album being released September 25, along with a live orchestra and choir as the singer’s backup.

Underwood and her manager Ann Edelblute will be executive producers on the project, along with Gary Goetzman and Tom Hanks of Playtone.

“The journey of writing and recording this album started last year when I finished my tour and we could have never anticipated the circumstances we would be in this year,” said Carrie Underwood. “Creating this album has been good for my heart, and I’m thrilled to get to share it with the world and to bring it to life with Playtone and HBO Max.”

“Carrie Underwood is a multi-faceted talent and we are thrilled to be partnering with her and our friends at Playtone to bring a dose of holiday cheer,” said Sarah Aubrey, head of original content, HBO Max.

HBO Max carries a number of holiday movies in its library year-round. This will be the first holiday special it has commissioned as a new streamer.
