The Nvidia Shield is about to get a big upgrade to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Not only does this bring backend updates but it also brings a ton of new feature to users.
I just got back from playing with Android 6.0 Marshmallow on the Shield and was impressed. Here are a few things I noticed from the demo.
If you own an Android phone you can have your phone automatically log your Shield into Google to add your Android apps to your Nvidia Shield.
The Google Play store has been redesigned to be more user friendly and focuses on finding more content right from the start. This update to the Google Play store really makes it easier to find new apps for your Shield.
With Marshmallow you now have more control over the home screen. You can decide what apps will display content on the favorites tab. The new, more personalized recommendations was a badly needed update.
Along with more control of the favorites list you can also reorder your games and apps to have them in whatever order you want.
External storage can now be used as a cheap way to add more storage to your Shield. Adding an SSD or flash thumb stick will now act just like internal storage, allowing you to install more apps and games.
Overall the new Marshmallow update to the Nvidia Shield makes it a more polished player ready to take on any player on the market. It was fast and smooth even when playing 4K video at 60fps. If you passed on the Shield in the past it is time to give the Nvidia Shield a second look.
