Over the last few years, Google TV has grown in popularity, and now Google is working on improving its home screen.

Google back in November announced that in early 2024, Google will update the look of the home screen. This would include all apps now having round icons instead of square.

Now that update has started to roll out, according to a report from Android Police, with a new look on the home screen and a quicker way to find free live TV channels. Some of the biggest look changes are new rounded app icons and more apps in Your Apps sections, making it easier to find what you want without needing to scroll.

Here is what Google announced back in November:

With over 10,000 apps on Android TV OS, it can be difficult to pick favorites. That’s why we’re making it even easier for Google TV users to find apps by creating more space with distinctive round icons on the “Your apps” row.

Coming early 2024, apps in Google TV’s “For you” tab will be displayed in a circular format to make better use of the space. These icons are derived from the andrdoid:icon resource, and if you aren’t already, you will need to begin providing them to make sure your app looks great in this new UI. Read on to learn more about the specific requirements.

This all comes as Google has been rebuilding its home screen with a new look. Last summer, Google TV announced a partnership with Tubi, Plex, and Haystack News to offer over 800 live channels built into Google TV for free. With this move, Google TV is becoming a major player in the work of free ad-supported live TV streaming. Now, Google TVs will make it easier to find these live channels.

Look for Google to continue to add new features to Google TV as it tries to compete with Roku, Fire TV, and Apple TV.
